It appears fantasy owners and Eagles fans aren’t the only ones waiting with baited breath for an update on the status of quarterback Michael Vick for Sunday’s NFC East showdown with the New York Giants.
Las Vegas bookmakers have no idea what to Hell to do with Sunday’s game, either, it seems.
5Dimes, Bodog, Mirage, World Sports Exchange, and Stations books have lines set for each of this weekend’s 16 games, except for, you guessed it, the Eagles and Giants.
No game line, no total, no nothing. I tend to follow this type of thing, so allow me to take a guess at how the numbers will shake out when they go live on the board.
If Mike Kafka starts: Kafka was surprisingly impressive on Sunday night, taking the Eagles to the brink of a comeback win in the Georgia Dome. And when you consider the Eagles have had great success over the last decade in games in which they’ve had to turn to backup quarterbacks, these are both trends that Vegas bookmakers won’t ignore. I’d imagine that the total would be set right around 40 points and the Eagles would be installed as a three-point favorite.
If Michael Vick starts:The Eagles offense has been electric through two games. They’ve had great success against the Giants in recent years, including last season’s miracle come-from-behind win in which Vick exploded in the fourth quarter. Given the Giants lackluster performances thus far, the betting public will likely lead strong toward the Eagles. Still, given the history between the two teams and that NFC East matchups tend to be even more unpredictable than the average game, I’d imagine this line won’t skyrocket to an unreasonable number— I think you will see the Eagles installed as a 7.5 point favorite with the total set in the 45.5 range.
Just something else to keep an eye on as we patiently wait for word on Vick’s status for Sunday.
