Philly Cops High-Five Woman After Bonging Beer
This isn’t really an Eagles-related post, but it’s too good to pass up. Here’s a woman tailgating prior to a recent Phillies game. As she takes her light beer of choice to the face, two cops roll up on motorcycles and give her high-fives, of course. God, I love Philadelphia.
Here’s Some Free Advice for the Giants: Just Shut Up
The Giants have been doing an awful lot of talking this week, particularly when you consider they have failed to beat the Eagles in their last six tries. I can hear the Giants fans chirping now. “Yo, but we’ve got three rings.” Enough with that. Those three rings will have no impact on what is to transpire on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field, nor will last year’s miracle comeback win by the Eagles that was capped by Desean Jackson’s game-winning punt return. By now you’ve probably heard Giants’ safety Antrel Rolle’s clamor about Sunday’s game, but just in case [...]
It’s easy to do, just count to three and do a switch-a-roo! That got weird, right? Anyway, the Eagles have shuffled their starting linebackers. Casey Matthews, after struggling through the season’s first two games, has been moved to the starting weakside linebacker spot. Jamar Chaney will take over, and Moises Fokou will man the strong-side. So much for Matthews’ quick maturation as the quarterback of a defensive unit on a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Clearly, Chaney is best suited to play in the middle, but the Eagles still have serious concerns at linebacker. Just because you change around the [...]
NFC East Power Rankings: Week 2
1. Philadelphia Eagles (1-1): The Eagles let one slip away on Sunday night, but there were many positive aspects to consider despite the loss. The Eagles, for a second straight week, displayed a dynamic offense that produced big plays from several sources. Jeremy Maclin was a ghost in Week 1, but was the most dominant receiver in the NFL in Week 2. Additionally, running back LeSean McCoy is emerging as a top-five running back before our eyes. Prior to Vick’s early exit with a concussion, it appeared the Eagles were poised to hang 40 points on the Falcons in the [...]
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that although Michael Vick will still have to pass standard concussion tests, early indications are that the team believes Vick will be ready to go for Sunday’s critical early season showdown with the Giants. The Eagles will likely update Vick’s condiction at today’s press conference, so we’ll be back with more. If Vick plays, it could be bad news for the Giants’ blitz happy defense. Despite the notion that Vick has struggled against the blitz, that was certainly not the case on Sunday night. He finished the game completing 9 of his 14 pass attempts for [...]
Vick Injury Has Vegas Bookmakers Stumped
It appears fantasy owners and Eagles fans aren’t the only ones waiting with baited breath for an update on the status of quarterback Michael Vick for Sunday’s NFC East showdown with the New York Giants. Las Vegas bookmakers have no idea what to Hell to do with Sunday’s game, either, it seems. 5Dimes, Bodog, Mirage, World Sports Exchange, and Stations books have lines set for each of this weekend’s 16 games, except for, you guessed it, the Eagles and Giants. No game line, no total, no nothing. I tend to follow this type of thing, so allow me to take [...]
Here’s Yet Another Reason to Hate the New York Giants
With the Giants holding a slim 7-6 lead in last night’s Monday night slopfest, Giants’ linebacker Michael Boley scooped up an ill-advised backwards pass from Rams’ quarterback Sam Bradford. Boley returned the fumble 65-yards for a touchdown. Cool. But check out what he did once he scored. My favorite part was his complete lack of acknowledgement that he, you know, threw a football from point blank range into a helpless man’s face. Classy stuff, Michael.
Is The Eagles’ Defense Really Built To Play With A Lead?
Throughout Andy Reid’s tenure, the Eagles defensive philosophy, through changing coordinators and personnel has always had one constant quality in that the unit is constructed to shine when it’s given a lead. What exactly does that mean? I mean, really, what does that statement mean? A three-point lead? Seven points? 20 points? Here’s your Maddenism of the day: A team can’t always play with a lead if the game starts with the score even. Last night, we watched our built-to-play-with-a-lead defense give up not one but, two 80-yard drives that resulted in touchdowns during the fourth quarter. The majority of [...]
Staff writer Steve Fini looks back at five players who stood out during the Falcons 35-31 win on Sunday night. Jason Peters (LT/Eagles)-– All I’ve heard since he’s been here is that he makes the Pro-Bowl based on reputation alone, that he takes plays off and that he’s vastly overrated. I think people here things on WIP and run with it. Peters, who was listed as questionable earlier this week, dominated Sunday night. Well tonight he was. He was dominant no matter who he came up against. He was solid, containing the Falcons’ fierce edge pass rush, and was relentless [...]
Here’s a Picture of Casey Matthews Getting Swallowed Up On Michael Turner’s 61-Yard Run
Dunta Robinson Fined $40,000 For Hit On Maclin
You know, I’m not a real big fan of Falcons’ defensive back Dunta Robinson. He does this thing where he tends to launch his body, helmet first, into the helmets of helpless receivers. It’s unnecessary, it’s cheap, and it’s dirty. And before you give me that “toughen up, people in the NFL are too soft today” crap, just know that I think many of the NFL rule changes are weak. Still, there is never any reason to purposely go helmet to helmet with a receiver over the middle. That’s not intimidation, that’s not protecting a zone–that’s assault. And Mr. Robinson [...]
Should the Eagles Have Traded Kevin Kolb?
With Michael Vick likely questionable for Sunday’s home opener against the Giants (personally, I believe there’s no chance in Hell he plays), the hot topic this week will inevitably be the Kevin Kolb trade. Given Vick’s pension for getting hurt, should the Eagles have hung onto Kevin Kolb as an insurance policy? I’m not going to spend to much time on the topic because the arguments have already been heard, and a silly blogger couldn’t possibly answer such a complicated question, so let’s turn things over NFL expert Michael Lombardi. Take it away, Mike. ct>
