Making Sense of Asante Samuel's Remarks: The Eagles are Screwed

That’s it. I’ve reached my breaking point with this team.

Earlier today, I wrote that the sole focus within the Eagles locker room had to be on devising and executing a near flawless gameplan to knock off Dallas and get back into playoff contention in a wide-open NFC East.

And the news was all good.

We learned about the returns of Jason Peters and Trent Cole, that Brandon Graham could be activated as early as this weekend to help provide another reinforcement to a potent defensive line. We were soothed by the statistic of Andy Reid’s mastery following the bye week, never having lost in 12 games.

Like I said, the news was all good.

And that’s when Asante Samuel took over.

Honestly, I don’t even know what the hell happened today–I don’t understand why Samuel felt the need to make remarks about front office “fantasy football” and disrespect. And I especially don’t understand why he chose today to pop off.

And I don’t know why the Eagles felt the need to address Samuel’s remarks.

But I do know that this is not what the Eagles need four days prior to a pivotal showdown with Dallas.

And I do know that this is yet another distraction in what has become a long list of them. This is a team that has lacked focus on the football field all season, failing to put together a complete four quarters. As such, perhaps this shouldn’t be such a shock given their total lack of focus leading up to the most important game of the season.

This team has given me no reason, aside from inflated and meaningless statistics, to suggest they have the stones to gut out this game and make something of the season.

While the sports-talk radio airwaves will be flooded tomorrow with people blaming Samuel, Andy Reid, Joe Banner, or Howie Roseman, I’ll abstain from such discussion.

Instead, I’m just going to tell you something you’re not going to want to hear–this team is completely and utterly screwed. They don’t have the edge, mental toughness, or focus to win this game on Sunday night. And, if by some chance they do, there’s no way they will sustain it over a two month stretch.

None. Zip. Zero.

Run and tell that.
