In the wake of yesterday’s 38-20 drubbing at the hands of the New England Patriots, fans flocked to the airwaves to call for Andy Reid’s head. Columnists and scribes wrote their usual pieces, wondering aloud if this newest low point for Andy Reid’s 4-7 team will be the final embarrassing blow that will lead to his departure. Same old, same old. But wait. About 2,000 fans began chanting “Fire Andy” from the stands after the Eagles missed on a fourth and goal opportunity in the third quarter. Headline says it all. Nnamdi Asomugha, who suffered a scary left knee injury during Thursday’s practice, will be active and is expected to start today against the Patriots. Just how effective and durable Asomugha will be is unknown at this point, but this a bit of good news just hours before the Eagles try to save their season against New England.

Predictions: Steve Fini: I picked the Eagles to lose last week and they won. I’m picking them to lose again this week so that maybe it will happen again. I don’t think the Patriots are great this season, but they do have great players. I fully expect Tom Brady to completely confuse Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and have early success. I also think that Aaron Hernandez or Rob Gronkowski might set the record for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in a game by a pair of tight ends by day’s end. Trent Cole (DE/Eagles) – Pressure is going to be key in this game. Allowing Tom Brady to sit in the pocket and choose where he wants to go is a death sentence for a defense. He has great awareness and can put the football anywhere, especially if he sees the pressure. Cole will coming from Brady’s blindside so he won’t be able to just throw the ball away or dump it off if Cole can get there in time.
