A pair of 4-8 teams will meet up in Miami this afternoon in a game absent of playoff implications. Yeah, the Eagles are mathematically alive, but it’s not happening. Still, there’s a few reasons to watch. Will Michael Vick come back strong from injury? Will DeSean Jackson continue to whine, wilt, and disappear from the offense? Will the players put forth some effort in a show of faith for Andy Reid? Every game matters in the NFL–even the ones that don’t. So here’s the breakdown:
LOCATION: Sun Life Stadium
DATE/TIME: Sunday, December 11, 2011 – 1:00PM ET
ANNOUNCERS: Chris Myers / Tim Ryan
SIRIUSXM: 132 (Philadelphia), 113 (Miami)
WEATHER: showers, upper 70s
BETTING LINE: Dolphins -3.0 (O/U 45.5)
Some other odds and ends:
*If Tim Ryan is calling your team’s game in December, you’re team sucks. This reminds me of those late 90s matchups against the Cardinals where nobody outside of Philadelphia was watching the game, Arizona included.
*The Eagles have a legitimate shot at a top-five pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. I’m not rooting for the Birds to lose, but this is something to keep an eye on as the season unfolds over the next four weeks.
*The Eagles are supposed to enter this game well-rested and at full-strength, but that may not not be the case. WR Jeremy Maclin, who has missed the last three games with various injuries, was downgraded Saturday to questionable. He’ll be a game-time decision.
*The last time the two teams met ironically was during the same season the Eagles last failed to make the postseason (2007). The Eagles beat the Dolphins at Lincoln Financial Field, 17-7, on a cold and miserable day.
*The Dolphins have outscored their opponents 139-54 while winning four of their last five games.
*Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore has completed 64.3 percent of his passes while throwing eight touchdowns and one interception over the last five games.
*Reggie Bush has an outside shot of rushing for 1,000 yards this season. Bush enters the game with a career-high 667 yards.
