There’s probably no need to run through the Eagles’ slim playoff scenarios again, but since we can even can contemplate any playoff scenario at this point, well, let’s bring it up again. Is it likely? Hell no. Is it possible? Sure. So, in the spirit of wishful thinking, I present to you this morning’s front page of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Jason Pierre-Paul vaulted the his team into first place and sealed a brilliant performance on Sunday night with a game-saving blocked field goal off the foot of Dallas kicker Dan Bailey. Pierre-Paul also notched two sacks, bringing his season total to 10.5 sacks. Not a bad night’s work for the defensive end many considered to be a mere workout warrior prior to the 2010 NFL Draft. Talk about déjà vu. I don’t know how they did it, but they did it. The New York Giants inexplicably came from 12 points behind to best Dallas on Sunday night after Dan Bailey was iced by Tom Coughlin, wiping away a would be game-tying 47-yard field goal. Remember that thought that crept into your mind about a possible Eagles playoff run just after 4 p.m. today? You know, the one that lasted until just around 11:45 p.m.? Well, you can forget about it. The Cowboys abused a completely lost New York secondary in the second half to beat the Cowboys and effectively end any realistic shot the Eagles had at qualifying for the postseason. The good news? Just drank a couple 40 oz. of Olde English. Feelin’ good. Then, I did what I always do when I polish off a couple big ass bottles of warm beer–I checked my Twitter feed. I saw NBC10′s John Clark chimed in with this nugget: Eagles are 5-8, Jets are 8-5, but the Eagles are favored next week. That’s right. The mother bleepin’ Eagles. By three-points. Like the title says. Aw yeah, ruin the suspense up top. You know what that tells me? It tells me the Eagles move to 6-8 and get one step closer to 2011 NFC East Champs. [...]

*That sure didn’t look like a team laying down on its head coach. Just saying. *LeSean McCoy carried 27 times (kudos to Andy Reid to stick with run despite a lack of success), but only picked up 38 yards. He did score twice on the ground, leaving him one touchdown behind Steve Van Buren for the franchise’s all-time lead. *The Eagles couldn’t have been much worse on offense in the second half. Anything is possible in the NFL. We’ve all watched enough football to know that. But when two 4-8 teams square off, it’s usually more about psychology and motivation than talent levels. And it also makes the game even harder to predict, which probably explains why the opinions below differ so greatly. Bob Wankel: At first glance, this is a game the Eagles probably should win. LeSean McCoy, Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, and an improving offensive line should provide enough firepower to get past Matt Moore and the Dolphins. At some point, the Eagles are going to have to develop a long-range plan at the quarterback position. Really, the Eagles and Dolphins don’t have a great history. Today’s game can’t be billed as a battle between two bitter rivals. Frankly, there are only two Eagles-Dolphins games that really stand out in my memory. There was the 2003 Monday Night Football clash when Eagles fans stormed Miami and watched the Birds roll, but Philly fans travel well and the game wasn’t even close. A pair of 4-8 teams will meet up in Miami this afternoon in a game absent of playoff implications. Yeah, the Eagles are mathematically alive, but it’s not happening. Still, there’s a few reasons to watch. Will Michael Vick come back strong from injury? Will DeSean Jackson continue to whine, wilt, and disappear from the offense? Will the players put forth some effort in a show of faith for Andy Reid? Every game matters in the NFL–even the ones that don’t. Believe it or not, the Philadelphia Eagles have a had a few memorable plays this season. I couldn’t really think of them on my own. Fortunately, the team’s website did a nice job of cutting a few good plays together into this video. You know your team’s season sucked a bag of dicks when two of the top five plays came in a losing effort. Anyway, the Celek catch has my vote as the top play. Your thoughts?
