Eagles sign Wide Receiver Mardy Gilyard

On Friday the Eagles announced that they have signed WR Mardy Gilyard to a futures contract. The details of the contract were not released.

He can't be worse than Dion Lewis, right?.

Gilyard was a fourth round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2010. After playing a minimal role for St. Louis in 2010 he was released prior to the 2011 season. Gilyard worked out for the Eagles in the preseason, but a deal was never reached.

While Gilyard was with the Rams he returned 16 kickoffs for a total of 356 yards. Clearly, Gilyard’s strength is as a kick returner, an area where the Eagles could use an obvious upgrade.
