The Burfict/Kuechly debate has officially come to an end after today’s combine performances by the two heralded linebackers.
Boston College’s Luke Kuechly had a stellar performance in Indy today, posting a 4.5 seconds in the forty-yard dash. Kuechly’s time was the third fastest for linebackers. He also had the third best long jump and third best broad jump. Critics of Kuechly noted his lack of athleticism, but the ultra productive linebacker quieted the critics and cemented himself as the top linebacker prospect in the draft.
Meanwhile, Vontaze Burifct, who spent the weekend blaming Arizona State’s coaching staff for his uneven performance last season, had a miserable work out. He didn’t finish in the top 15 of any category and posted a miserable 5.09 seconds in the 40-yard dash. It’s a real possibility that Burfict will fall out of the first round.
CBSSports’s Bruce Feldman talked to one scout who had this to say:
“I wouldn’t touch him. He does have some talent, but he is so undisciplined on and off the field. The guy is completely out of control. There’s no way you could trust him. I can’t believe they (ASU coaching staff) didn’t cut him loose.”
