What We Learned At Monday OTAs

Here are some quick hits and things you need to know from Monday’s practice.

*As previously reported, DeSean Jackson will miss this week’s practices. Jason Avant filled in nicely for Jackson. Riley Cooper, who now has some competition in sixth-round selection Marvin McNutt, dropped some catchable balls. Cooper is a terrific special teams player, but he has to elevate his game if he plans to stick around for another season.

*The Eagles are attempting to completely rebuild quarterback Trent Edwards–his footwork, posture in the pocket, and delivery. Edwards hasn’t been particularly sharp in these spring workouts. Yesterday, he took considerably fewer snaps than Michael Vick, Mike Kafka, and Nick Foles. At this point, it appears the Eagles signed Edwards as an insurance policy in case Kafka didn’t show signs of improvement. But the Eagles’ incumbent backup has responded well. It’s hard to figure Edwards fits in Philly at this point. He’ll have to play lights-out at Lehigh to earn a roster spot.

*Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie missed yesterday’s practice because of an out-of-town funeral. He’ll be back today. Curtis Marsh took his reps.
