Dion Lewis Arrested on Felony Charge In Albany

by Eagles

According to Pro Football Talk, Dion Lewis was arrested (along with his older brother) early Saturday morning in Albany, New York. Lewis, according to the story, was a guest at the Hampton Inn in Albany. The hotel locks the doors to its lobby at midnight and only a guest key can grant one access. Lewis reportedly slammed on the locked doors and eventually pulled a fire alarm. Lewis was charged with a felony count of falsely reporting a fire and a misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge. He was released following his arraignment, while his older brother Lamar is being held without bail. Both men were reportedly intoxicated at the time.

It remains to be seen whether Lewis faces discipline of any sort from commissioner Roger Goodell for this incident, but if Lewis faces a suspension for his actions (which isn’t all that unlikely since it was a felony crime), it could open up a roster spot for one of Chris Polk or Bryce Brown. Brown was the team’s 7th round draft pick out of Kansas State, where he played sparingly after being a highly touted recruit coming out of high school. Polk was a productive player at Washington, but went undrafted due to concerns with a shoulder injury. Since Lewis was (and is) expected to be the primary backup to budding superstar LeSean McCoy, one of Brown or Polk would most likely not make the roster after training camp. However, a suspension for Lewis would give both a chance to make the roster and fight for playing time as McCoy’s backup, and if both prove themselves in limited action, they could both remain on the roster after Lewis is re-activated. It’s all just an interesting hypothetical for now, as Lewis has not been disciplined yet, but it’s something to keep an eye on, since the 3rd RB spot is shaping up to be one of the most competitive positional battles at training camp.
