Philbin, Dungy, Others Offer Reid Condolences

Eagles head coach Andy Reid lost his son, Garrett, unexpectedly Sunday morning. And as unfortunate of a tragedy as it is, it’s also not the first time that a high-profile NFL coach has lost a son far too soon. Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin and former NFL coach Tony Dungy each offered their condolences on Sunday to Andy Reid.

Philbin, who lost his son, Michael, 21, earlier this January released a statement late Sunday evening.

“The loss of a child and a sibling is absolutely devastating to a family,” Philbin said. “Our hearts go out to Andy and Tammy Reid as they mourn the loss of their precious son, Garrett. We will keep them and their other children, Britt, Spencer, Crosby and Drew Ann, in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.”

Meanwhile, Tony Dungy, whose son took his own life in 2005, and is a friend of Reid’s took to Twitter to offer his support.

“At times like this, when life hurts, u have to look to God!”
