Reports: Eagles Couldn’t First Land Kelly Because Of Power Issues

Jason La Canfora, the CBS Sports national football writer who delivered some harsh criticisms of Eagles general manager Howie Roseman through a variety of unnamed sources in a piece on the team’s coaching search earlier this week, just tweeted out this little tidbit regarding the deal between the Eagles and their new coach.

La Canfora, citing no specific source, tweets:

“Eagles and Kelly could not get together last time due to issues of power. Will be interesting to see if Kelly has final say in personnel.”

Frankly, it’s unlikely that either side will confirm this report. And it’s unfair to completely single out La Canfora for citing sources and writing pieces on the Eagles’ coaching search that in the end proved to be off-base. Hell, we’ve had a few ourself.

One thing is certain–that the Eagles and Kelly were able to come together ten days after it appeared a deal was dead is both fascinating and shocking. And it would be a hell of a story if either side was forthcoming enough to explain how in the world this deal got done.
