It’s another day and another coaching addition has been made to Chip Kelly’s staff. The latest hire is University of Cincinnati defensive backs coach John Lovett, per Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com.
The 62-year-old is expected to serve in the same capacity on Kelly’s staff.
Lovett, who is a college football lifer, has served as a defensive coordinator at six different schools, some of which are among the country’s elite.
As for NFL experience? Well, he has that, too. Sort of. Lovett spent the 1984 season with the Jets as a quality control coach. Something tells me the carry over of that experience won’t be too great.
While it appears that the Lovett hiring will complete Kelly’s staff as he heads into year one, the Eagles have yet to officially confirm any of the assistant coaching hires. It’s certainly an eclectic staff, one that employs a group of men that have had very different and diverse experiences with football. Those hires will be one of many storylines to keep an eye on as we approach the draft, OTAs, and move on through the summer months.
