Heading into OTA’s, the Eagles have a developing quarterback controversy and the only thing we know about the controversy is that it will be settled through “competition”. Before the draft the Eagles had four quarterbacks on their roster: Mike Vick, Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon, and G.J. Kinne. Even when the quarterback depth chart looked like this, there was a bit of controversy about who showed start week one between Vick and Foles.
Now enter 4th Round pick Matt Barkley.
Barkley was considered a sure-fire top-10 pick last year, but opted to play out his senior season and by doing so, Barkley saw his draft stock plummet into the fourth round. Most people still believe that Barkley can play at the level that would’ve made him a top-10 pick last year which makes him a very interesting figure in this Eagles controversy.
The Eagles have said that all 5 quarterbacks will be brought to camp and by way of practice field competition, Chip Kelly will decided who will be his week 1 starter.
This is how I think the Eagles quarterback depth chart will look week 1:
1. Mike Vick
2. Matt Barkley
3. Dennis Dixon
Now let me set the record straight, I think Nick Foles can be a productive quarterback in the NFL, I just don’t see it being in Philadelphia, and it’s not because of his lack of speed. It’s because I feel that their will be teams, i.e the Jaguars and the Browns, who will be looking for a quarterback with starting potential come preseason and I believe that Nick Foles will be traded to a team during the preseason who is indeed looking for a starting quarterback.
As for the Vick-Barkley situation. I believe Barkley will start the season on the bench, but when the inevitably happens and Mike Vick gets injured, Matt Barkley will get his chance to prove himself.
Be sure to let me know who you want to be the Eagles starting quarterback and who you think will be the Eagles starting quarterback in the comment section below.
