It was only recently that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin‘s season — and possible future with the team — ended abruptly with a torn right ACL suffered during the first day of training camp. Now, another teammate has sustained the exact same injury. This time, the victim was linebacker Jason Phillips.
Phillips was brought over from the Carolina Panthers over the offseason after spending two years with the team. This former 2009 fifth-round draft pick was slated to bolster the Eagles special teams unit during the coming season. Unfortunately, after this injury, the Eagles will have to look for special teams help elsewhere.
According to Pro Football Talk, Phillips fell to the ground and had a few “choice words” before he needed to be helped off the field by trainers after suffering the injury to his right leg. He was taken off the field on a cart and immediately evaluated. That’s when the bad news came in:

This is another tough day for the Eagles — and the NFL as a whole due to multiple players suffering this same injury so early on in training camp. This will be another test for new head coach Chip Kelly as the 2013 NFL season gets underway.
