On Monday night, Michael Vick will face-off against Robert Griffin III for the first time. Griffin defeated the Eagles twice last year with Nick Foles at quarterback. Not only did RG3 sweep the Eagles in his rookie season, but he obliterated Todd Bowles’ defense. In the two games, Griffin threw for 398 yards, six touchdowns, one interception, and recorded a 137.6 passer rating. The man was unstoppable.
RG3 dominated the Eagles similarly to how Michael Vick dominated the Redskins in 2010 when he scored six touchdowns in a single game.
The Eagles may need that kind of superstar performance from Vick.
The Eagles are coming into Fed Ex Field as the obvious underdog. Chip Kelly’s Eagles will take the field for the first time in a regular season game. The Redskins have been ascending since Mike Shanahan became the franchise’s head coach in 2010. Michael Vick will need to be at his best to defeat RG3 and the Redskins.
Griffin III’s game is similar to Vick’s game. Both quarterbacks will endure the same pressure of dodging brutal defenders who look to hit running quarterbacks harder than ever with the read-option offense gaining notoriety after having much success in 2012.
Griffin was asked whether he idolized Michael Vick. “Vick was a guy that was hard not to watch,” he said. “He’s always done great things and paved the way for guys like me. He’s been through a lot.”
RG3 vs. Vick was a marquee match-up when the schedules were released before the 2012 season. The anticipation for this prodigious clash of duel-threat quarterbacks will provide a dynamic viewing for millions.
