Eagles Release CB Brandon Hughes

hughesThe Eagles released cornerback Brandon Hughes on Saturday, September 7. Before being released, Hughes was ruled out for Monday night’s regular season opener. Hughes broke his hand in the pre-season.

By releasing Brandon Hughes, the Eagles will save money. They’ll likely re-sign him next week to the same conctract with no guarantee money.

The Eagles are down to five healthy cornerbacks. Just three of the five, Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher, and Brandon Boykin, have been tested in the NFL. Only Boykin has played a regular season snap as a Philadelphia Eagle. Rookie Jordan Poyer seemed over-matched in the pre-season and new Eagle Shaun Prater couldn’t crack the Bengals’ 53-man roster.
