After the Week Seven loss the the Dallas Cowboys, many fans would have found this question ludicrous. But after Nick Foles 22 of 28, 406 yards and seven touchdown performance against the Oakland Raiders this past Sunday; the question has now become a lot more relevant. Who is the better starting quarterback for the Eagles? Michael Vick or Nick Foles.
Just looking at the Oregon style-Chip Kelly offense, you’d probably have to side with Vick solely based on his mobility. The ever present threat of the quarterback as a runner is at the heart of this high-octane offensive scheme. Yet Foles was able to execute the offensive gameplan flawlessly without that threat.
Vick, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, hasn’t really played in almost a month. He did try to come back too early in Week Eight against the New York Giants, but was pulled early into the second quarter. So far thei year, Vick has recorded 1,215 passing yards, 301 rushing yards, seven total touchdowns and three interceptions in six games. While he was under center, the Eagles have gone 2-4.
Foles, on the other hand, hasn’t thrown an interception all season. So far, he’s recorded 1,028 passing yards and 14 total scores in six games. And the Eagles have won the past three out of four games he’s played in.
The latest news on Vick’s hamstring injury isn’t very good. Head coach Chip Kelly has given up on trying to predict a time-frame for his return. Vick has not returned to the practice field, so it’s safe to say this question will go unanswered for at least another week. But if both Vick and Foles are healthy, and the latter continues to excel. who should get the starting nod? Tell me what you think below.
