DeMeco Ryans brings leadership to the Eagles' Defense

Not since the days of nine-time Pro Bowl Safety Brian Dawkins have the Eagles had the right leader on their defensive squad. Eight year veteran two-time Pro Bowler DeMeco Ryans has become that leader and a silent threat to any offense he faces. Ryans’ eleven solo tackles against the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday was just another day at the office.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ Inside Linebackers coach, Rick Minter is well aware of what he has in Ryans. In a recent interview with Sheil Kapadia at, Minter commented on Ryans:

He is the leader of our group. He’s the elder statesman, the older player. Fortunately, when your older player is a producer, and he’s one of your very best people in the room, it really is a very good situation.

Minter knew who to go to when he wanted the linebackers to get some extra practice in. He went on to say this about Ryans,

I can just tell that he’s the guy that the fellas will look to when they need some word of guidance or advice. We were talking about getting some more meeting time the other day, which is all within the limits of the CBA, and he coördinated that effort and got back to me. You could tell they went through him to say, ‘What do you think, D?

The Eagles’ Defense started off slow this year but they are starting to look like the defense of the days of old. With DeMeco Ryans at the helm, the Eagles look to go deep into the playoffs this year.
