Brent Celek: There When The Eagles Need Him

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

There has been a lot of talk about Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Nick Foles, Running Back LeSean McCoy, Wide Receivers Riley Cooper and DeSean Jackson. And deservedly so. That combination has proved lethal to defenses. But one member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Tight End Brent Celek hasn’t gotten a lot of praise or mention lately. He has quietly moved into second place in the Eagles’ record books with 24 touchdown receptions for a tight end. The tight end isn’t a glamour position but it is where you go for yardage in the middle of the field.

Since he started his NFL Career in 2007 Celek has completed 303 passes for a total of 3,792 yards. Not bad for seven years. But here is something astonishing. In his seven years as a pro he fumbled the ball one time. That is not a misprint, he has fumbled the ball one time in his career. Turnovers will kill a team. They will steal any momentum that is running your way. But Celek is stingy with the ball. He can be and is trusted. The Eagles would not be where they are today without his gritty, smash mouth style of play. Look for him to shine more and more down the stretch. He is really there when the Eagles need him.
