This week according to Peter Smith of WithTheFirstPick.com he projects Ohio State corner back Bradley Roby will go to the Philadelphia Eagles. This is the third corner back in as many weeks that have been projected for the Eagles. Smith goes on to explain the rationale behind the pick.
Reports of Roby’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. There are some issues that need to be addressed and he needs to get back to being the more consistent tackler he was last year, but he has incredible ability and there appears to be an element of playing to avoid getting hurt. When he is on, he is still a dominant corner and had he declared last year, he would have been my top eligible corner. The ability is there; he just needs to get back to it and the Eagles address a need at a nice value.
After the Eagles performance last week I am leaning away from believing they need a pass rusher and more toward help in the secondary. While Roby’s numbers in college are good I am not sure the Eagles need a project player that needs tweaking. They could go to the NFC Championship game this year and possibly the Super Bowl. But to stay in contention for years to come they need players that are ready to go from day one. I am not sure this would be my first choice as a corner back for the Eagles for that reason alone. Plus Roby’s performance has dropped off a bit from last year. That is a red flag worth investigating.
Let us know our thoughts below. From a poll released yesterday morning you the best fans in all the NFL, believe the Eagles need to beef up their secondary.
