When Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly proclaimed the statement, “We’re from Philadelphia, We Fight,” you had to know the Eagles players swelled with pride. The city of Philadelphia and the Eagles fans had to feel proud to have Chip Kelly at the helm. That statement will be repeated all this week and if the Eagles win the NFC East Division Sunday night it will most likely become the Eagles new motto.
Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears is one that will be talked about for a while. Kelly could have rested his starters because the game had no implication on the division title. But he knew his team needed a win after the demoralizing loss last weekend against the hapless Minnesota Vikings. But I think his intentions were more than just beating the Bears. It is more than gaining momentum. It is about creating a culture for the Philadelphia Eagles. A culture that the team will follow.
I can’t be certain but Kelly may be the only NFL coach who has quoted Winston Churchill. He is proving to be a brilliant football coach. He is Bill Belichick with a personality. I think the Eagles will be a force in the NFL for some time. Each week a different part of the Eagles team steps up and makes plays. The players take pride in their body of work. They trust Kelly will lead them to win. He could lead them to more than one Super Bowl.
