Former Philadelphia Eagles strong safety Brian Dawkins was one of my favorite players for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was selected to nine Pro Bowls in his 16 year professional career. He was the heart and soul to the Philadelphia Eagles defense. I truly felt a sense of loss the day I heard of his trade to the Denver Broncos. He was a key player in the Eagles run of four straight NFC Conference Championship games. From 2001 to 2008 the missed they play-offs twice. Of the times they made it they at least advanced past the second round. Since the first year he was gone the Eagles have not gotten out of Wild Card Weekend as the victor.

With all the speculation about Free Agency and this year’s draft let’s hope Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly realizes he needs a young, larger than life leader to ground the defense again like Dawkins did. The Eagles have not been the same team without Number 20. If Kelly can find Dawkins 2.0 the Eagles just might return to and surpass the greatness they once enjoyed.
