At this point in his career, Michael Vick is far from a marquee NFL quarterback. His explosive play and unprecedented athleticism at the quarterback position are elements to his game that certainly could still be valuable on the field. However, his drawbacks have often outweighed the excitement. Philadelphia Eagles fans know as well as anybody. You might get an incredible victory and record breaking numbers one week, but the following week could just as easily be a 3 turnover performance that ends early due to a big hit by an opposing linebacker that sidelines him for two or three more games. That being said, the athleticism and big play capabilities might be attractive to a team with a less stable quarterback situation than the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick’s interest clearly lies in a starting position, but he might not get that. Heading into free agency expecting an uncontested starting job might be a lofty goal for Michael Vick.
At any rate, the Philadelphia Eagles should welcome Michael Vick with open arms if he were to choose to return as the second string quarterback behind Nick Foles. Vick’s playing time was limited this past season, but he did show good potential in his ability to benefit from the fast paced offensive style of rookie head coach Chip Kelly. In my mind, Michael Vick would be the ideal backup for the developing Nick Foles. It will come down to the matter of whether or not Vick will choose to pursue another option or accept that role late in his career.
