Eagles' Rewind: Superbowl Appearances

Almost 25 years later the Eagles made their second Superbowl appearance on February 5, 2005 against the New England Patriots at the Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. Andy Reid was the head coach of the Eagles at the time with Donovan McNabb as the quarterback, running back Brian Westbrook, wide receiver Terrell Owens, and safety Brian Dawkins. This game looked like it could be anybody’s in the first half of the game. After the second half, more turnovers and a tired defense led the Eagles to be defeated by three points with a final score of 24-21. Many say that although McNabb was a top-notch quarterback, he just wasn’t ready for such a high-pressure game.

Now lets come back to the present. Due to the Eagles having a successful season with many changes from the coaching staff to the players, they managed to persevere and make it to the playoffs. Now that they know and understand head coach Chip Kelly’s system, they now have a better view of what is needed to make it to the next Super bowl. I have a great feeling we won’t be counted out so quickly as we were this past year.
