According to a report by SI.com analyst Peter King, Philadelphia Eagles coaches and officials, most likely head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman, met with Texas A&M quarterback and 2014 draft prospect Johnny Manziel at the recent NFL combine. Hmmm… This is very intriguing. Given the latest comments by Roseman the Eagles are approaching the 2014 NFL Draft with the mindset of drafting the best player on the board. Empirically, Manziel fits Kelly’s high-octane, read-option offense that he has been wildly successful with during his tenure with the Oregon Ducks.

Just yesterday Roseman was quoted saying Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is their starter for the 2014 season. But reports are coming in that Manziel’s stock may have dropped after the combine. In a recent article on NFL.com Johnny Manziel is only 5-foot-11 3/4, not 6-foot as he had been listed. One un-named coach said of Manziel,

Manziel keeps trying to portray the image of the next Russell Wilson and I’m not buying it.

OK, here’s the scenario: Houston Texans take Bridgewater #1. St. Louis takes Matthews. Jacksonville doesn’t like Bortles or Manziel, so they offer the #3 overall pick and their 4th rounder to the Eagles for Nick Foles. Eagles then take Manziel with the #3 pick, and Calvin Pryor with the #22. For the record, I don’t want Manziel on the Eagles.

Already can’t stand this guy… Could always be trade bait.

Magog, I hope you are smoking crack! That is a possible scenario but Manziel is a bust in my opinion. I really hope you are way off base.

Mahoney, I am with you on that sentiment.

Ridiculous that everyone is ripping Manziel apart. He is going to be a very good QB in this league. I don’t care what an in-named coach “Pete Carroll” says about Manziel. He’ll be better then Wilson! Wilson is a recent day Bradshaw. He is a Super Bowl winning QB that is fortunate enough to have the best defense I’ve personally seen in my lifetime. I think Johnny Manziel will flourish is this league and prove everyone wrong.

Manziel remains a riddle. Could become a great quarterback, could spent his entire pro career as a backup. I would’t pick this guy in the first round, even if my team needed a QB badly. But it takes only one team. Texans, Jaguars, Browns, Raiders, Vikings, Titans and Cardinals are possible suitors.
