DeMarcus Ware To The Eagles? Possibly

In quick fashion the Dallas Cowboys released star defensive end DeMarcus Ware. Last season was a down season for him recording only six sacks but he racked up double digit sacks in four of the last five seasons. The Eagles are in need of a dynamic pass rusher like Ware. He could fit the Eagles bill perfectly.

ESPN Analyst Louis Riddick who worked for the Eagles believes they will try to get Ware on the squad:

The Eagles have competition for Ware. According to NFL Analyst Ian Rapoport at least six playoff teams have already contacted him:

This may seem too good to be true but the Eagles need a talent like his. With an opportunity to rub it in the Cowboys face twice a year you have to think Ware would be pretty interested in the Eagles, too.

It isn’t known yet what he will demand but the Eagles would probably do well to secure him if they can.

After first day of free agency, Eagles still have more more or less $20 million of cap space. Signed safety Malcolm Jenkins, re-signed punter Donnie Jones, got $2.25 million of space from cutting Patrick Chung.

Why? We already have an aging veteran in Trent Cole playing in his position. He might be an upgrade over Cole (however Ware is coming off a down season) but he will be 32 at the start of the season. I don’t think either of them will be interested in splitting snaps with the other. The Eagles need to draft the heir to Trent Cole. I’m sure Cole would prefer to split snaps with a protege and help bring him up.

Demarcus Ware is perhaps the only Cowboys player I’ve admired in recent years. Part of me would like it if he didn’t sign with one of Dallas’ rivals. I like to think he’s that type of player.
