The story surrounding Philadelphia Eagles Pro-Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson is spiraling out of control. I have seen more articles in the past week citing “sources” but not one credible source has come forward. Specifically Eagles head coach Chip Kelly or general manager Howie Roseman. Does anyone remember how Kelly handled the media during the season? How he would not commit to a starting quarterback until the week of the game? He and Roseman play things close to the vest.

Let’s be honest here. Jackson put up crazy receiving yards for the Birds last season. That puts him at 9th place in total receiving yards the entire season out of all wide receivers, tight ends and running backs. Not too shabby if you ask me. He averages over 16 yards per reception. That my fellow Eagles fans moves the chains on every reception. He is fast, gets separation from the line of scrimmage and get you points.

Why in the world would the Eagles want to trade or cut him?

Who (that is available) could replace him right now?

I agree with you 100% but the amount of rumors now is unprecedented for something not to happen. I do believe Philly may have wanted Jackson to see his real worth out there so he would shut his trap.

You are about spot on with your assessment.

I just saw Ian Rapaport talk about it. The rumors are getting crazy but with no evidence. NONE. Sure teams are interested, many people would love that kind of production. They lived with TO for two years and Jackson is NO-Where near that level of difficult. I think a rumor got started and when it took wind everyone jumped on the band wagon. Kind of reminds me of the National Enquirer. “A source close to so and so…” What ever. That source could have been someone following Jackson on Twitter. The players in this aren’t really talking. Howie Roseman said he was under contract. Even THAT fanned the winds of speculation. It’s crazy and out of control.

    Thanks for the comment.

While Jackson is a dynamic talent with diva tendencies and Kelly is trying to build a locker room full of character guys, he is the best option to taking a step closer to the Super Bowl. Whether we trade him or not, I think we still draft a WR as insurance. Maclin is injury prone and Jackson’s production tailed off near the end of the season. We’ll need up and coming talent at the position for the future.

I’m confident that regardless of the outcome surrounding trade speculation, this team will produce big numbers offensively. With or without Jackson. Kelly’s system adjusts to the talent on the field. He’ll come up with ways to get anyone open.

    Also, love the Superman avi.

SJ, thanks for the comment. And thanks for Superman plug. He was always my favorite super hero as a kid.

You, too make a good point about up and coming talent. And Kelly’s ability to come up with ways to produce. Once the Eagles get a dynamic defensive end or shutdown cornerback maybe they can pick up a young receiver to nurture.
