The 2014 NFL Mock Draft is creeping ever closer but it is still weeks away. Normally we would be gearing up for the draft this time of year but the NFL moved it up a few months. Earlier on this site an article discussed the recent turbulence the Eagles are experiencing after a relatively quiet beginning to their free agency. They shored up some areas of concern in their defense and special teams. I don’t believe they are finished with the defense and it looks like they plan to continue building it through the draft.

But with recent questions surrounding Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson’s future there could be a wide receiver in the Eagles mix in later rounds.

You will notice I veered from the Eagles need for a pass rusher. I still think they need one but could probably grab one in the later rounds.

For more great mock drafts, visit the database at Walter Football as well as the good folks over at the DC Pro Sports Report. We thank them for their support.

what makes you think pryor could be a CB? he shows a lack of awareness in coverage is a suspect tackler, and runs a 4.6 (good for a safety i suppose but terrible for a CB). if the eagles really wanted a CB, they’d take darqueze dennard or kyle fuller. both are superior prospects to pryor and actually do play CB. also what makes you think dennard will fall so far or demarcus lawrence go so high?
I would like to see a more original pick for the eagles than pryor. I get a lot of people like him, but I would urge you not to just write what people want to hear.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for the comments. You have some valid points. One of the main reasons I chose Pryor is his reckless abandon against the run. He is a pretty fierce threat and I see some qualities in him that could work out really well for the Eagles. Billy Davis could take that Pryor’s talent and hone him into a premier safety in this league.

I also feel that he could make a good cornerback because of his size. He may be three hundredths of a second slower than league average for a wide receiver but he could cause disruption at the line. The Eagles defensive line only needs a slight hesitation on the quarterback’s part to get to him.

I do try not to write what people want to hear. But listening to Coach Kelly and Howie Roseman it seems more and more like they want a really good cornerback. I don’t think a quality one will be available at number 22.

If I had my choice I would love for them to pick Dee Ford from Auburn. He’s fast and smart but his size limits him on the pass rush. The more I read about it the more I understand he would not be the best first pick for the Eagles.
