Navy slotback Will McKamey, who passed away on March 26th while in a post-surgical coma, was recently named an honorary member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly personally visited the Navy football squad during practice last Saturday to make the announcement to the team.
“It really means a lot that someone of Chip Kelly’s stature would take the time to come to Annapolis and honor Will in that way,” Navy Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo stated. “That Coach Kelly wanted to do something special on behalf of Will, something to uplift his family, shows what a class act he is.”
Chip Kelly presented Navy Head Coach Niumatalolo with a No. 41 Philadelphia Eagles jersey with McKamey’s name on the back. Will McKamey wore No.41 for the Navy Midshipmen.
Will McKamey was a great football player, a decorated all-star in high school who had over 2,000 rushing and receiving yards during his senior year of high school. However, it is evident that McKamey was more than just a good player. He was a team player who was playing the sport he loved while serving a country he has made proud.
A classy move by Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly.
