After weeks of speculation, conjecture and imagination the Eagles have spoken. The release of former wide receiver DeSean Jackson sparked speculation of gang relations, disruption in the locker room to insubordination. I was convinced they were not going to release him to the point I made a grand statement that he wasn’t going anywhere. But I was wrong.
In a recent article by NJ.com Kelly spoke publicly about Jackson’s release for the first time.
It was strictly a football decision, we were aware of (the nj.com) report a few days prior, but that had nothing to with it. I never had an issue with DeSean. He never yelled at me during practice. I never yelled at him. I don’t know where that came from. But it never happened.
So what about the timing of his release. It did seem a bit suspect that the release came right after the NJ.com article alleging Jackson’s gang ties. Kelly countered,
The timing is, it was exactly when we had gotten back from the owners’ meeting. That was the timing. We had tried to trade him, but we had no offers. So there was no decision to make there. We released him. It was a football decision.
Not sure that really answers anything but one this is clear. That is all we are getting from the Eagles organization. The door is closed, no use trying to find anything else.
Do you believe Kelly? I believe that’s all he can say.
