There are many great things about working at FanSided. One of them is the connections we have with all the other NFL teams. FanSided has sports experts taht run a site for about every team you can think of. On occasion, we work together for a common goal. Today, we worked together for a collaborative Mock Draft.
Editors from all 32 NFL team sites got together and chose our prospective pick for our teams in a first round mock draft. Below is my selection at number 22 for the Philadelphia Eagles and my reasoning.
With the 22nd pick in the NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select…
Dee Ford, DE, Auburn
Selection made by Todd Duvall, Inside the Iggles
Here is the analysis on the selection:
I have always been high on Ford. He is a student of the game and plays smart football. He is small for a defensive end but he makes up for it with his speed and agility. He also compensates for his smallish size with really long arms, (32.875″). His speed off the line and tenacity to finishing a play is a great plus. That explosion off the line will make it hard for the Eagles to overlook with their 3-4 defense. Ford became a force in 2013. He ended the regular season with 12.5 tackles for a loss including 8.5 sacks.
In hindsight, I oscillated between Ford and Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. I believe the Eagles need a pass rusher more than they need another safety. Ford may not be the best choice but in my opinion he was the best player for that position left on the board. Ford has weaknesses but maybe Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis can coach him up and make a beast of a pass rusher out of him.
We may not have a choice.
