Mark Sanchez: A Vital Piece Of The Eagles Offense

When the Philadelphia Eagles picked up former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez it left many people wondering what the Eagles were thinking. Many tweets about the infamous and never to be forgotten butt fumble resurfaced. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly made a short statement about the decision to sign him.

“I’ve said many times that we will always look to add quality players at the quarterback position. We consider it a key position… so having the chance to add Mark to that group was a no-brainer for us. .”-Chip Kelly

Sanchez has talent and a lot of un-tapped potential. Kelly is just the man to bring out that potential. With the loss of former Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, they needed a quality back up quarterback. Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley isn’t ready for the show yet. He may never be ready so the Eagles had to act. I think it was the best move. I trust Kelly. He knows what he is doing.

It appears to be a good fit for Sanchez. He seems happy and best of all, mature.

I loved everything that happened there [with the Jets]. Maybe that year off was exactly what I needed. I think what they [Eagles] did last year was just the tip of the iceberg.”

It’s unlikely Sanchez will get many starts as an Eagle, if any. But his presence offers a level of comfort. I know I feel better knowing he is the backup instead of Barkley. But if we learned anything last year for a team to survive you need a good backup quarterback. Sanchez fits that bill nicely.

Is this sarcasm? Sanchez provides comfort? Hahaha. You better pray this guy never has to start, seriously.

Purely as a back up though, Sanchez is a much better shout than Barkley. Yes, he’s had down patches in his career, but he’s also been good enough to lead the Jets to the postseason several times. That’s great to have in a back up,
