I’m going to need your help on this.
Today marked an easygoing Sunday. A couple of friends and I decided to catch up, over lunch. So busy with our individual lives, we finally had enough time to discuss careers, family life, etc. Within moments, it was as if we never went a day without talking. How sweet.
Then it happened – someone mentioned football.
We are all football junkies in our own rights. Two including myself, are Eagles fans, and the other three – well, they are not as sound-minded. They were born into families of Dallas Cowboy fans, jumped shipped to become New York Giants fans, or decided that the Pittsburgh Steelers are more of Pennsylvania’s team than the Eagles. That is all fine and dandy. However, we began discussing the upcoming season, and just chiming in whenever possible adding some predictions and factors.
Wouldn’t you know it; my friends who are non-Eagles fans unanimously chose Philadelphia to go either 5-11 or 8-8 at best. I just laughed. It was clear that I was friends with a few people that were not ready to accept that the Philadelphia Eagles are on the rise, and have a legit opportunity of becoming a mainstay powerhouse in the NFL. I do not blame them – change can be scary. But, what caught my attention was the other customers enjoying their lunch, too. What started as an intense, yet friendly discussion of football became a fierce debate, as tables surrounding ours agreed with my three buddies and their 8-8 prediction. That was not the real shock. What was most shocking was that I am from Philadelphia, and was eating in a Philadelphia restaurant, and those Philadelphians did not have faith in their own home team.
I am as peaceful as they come, believe me, but you are not going to sit there and just disrespect my team, especially during my Sunday’s lunch. That’s what you’re not going to do. I went on to say that Philadelphia would not drop more than 5 games this year, if that. Of course, I was almost laughed out of the restaurant. I’ll take that.
One of the Gaints’ fan said, “Well, ask anybody, and I bet you that no one would see the Eagles winning 10 or more games.” And this is where I can use your help. I am hoping that somebody can show that he is wrong about us. What do you think? Will Philadelphia wins exceed ten, or are they destined to go 8-8 at best? Nothing would please me more, than to see him make that “I had it wrong face”, especially when it comes to the Birds.
