NFL Bans More Bars On Helmet Facemasks

Monday, the NFL released a memo banning all non-standard facemasks stating possible health concerns. It states the extra bars will give the player an extra sense of security and the player will be tempted to lead with his head more and hit with more force. The age of the cool facemasks is over.

They also stated the extra bars will add extra weight which will tend to pull on the player’s neck and cause neck injury. Leave it to the NFL to take a seemingly non-issue and make it an issue. If they are worried about head and neck injuries maybe they could reduce the amount of padding in the helmet and pads. This would force the players to hit with less force. But I am not a doctor so maybe I am wrong about that. I’m not sure the focus to the facemask that important.
