Eagles Cary Williams Speaks the Truth About Patriots

Cary Williams, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback isn’t known for not speaking his mind. Friday, Williams was talking about the joint practice that’s planned with the New England Patriots. He’s not a fan, that much is sure. Some of his disdain could come from his days with the Baltimore Ravens. There is a bitter rivalry between those two teams and he was in the middle of some tense games when he was there.

They [Patriots] are cheaters, they are.”-Cary Williams

Whether this animosity comes from a rivalry he was a part of or from the fact the Patriots did cheat and get caught at it, he does speak the truth.

In 2007, the Patriots were fined $250,000 and lost a 2008 first-round pick for illegally shooting video of opposing teams’ defensive signals. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was fined an additional $500,000. That’s a pretty light sentence for cheating at the game. Very light.

They compromised the integrity of the game. There is no excuse for that. The NFL probably should have taken a Super Bowl win or two away from them. Penalties are meant to be a deterrent. According to Forbes, The new England Patriots are worth $1.8 Billion dollars. $250,000 to the Patriots is like a regular Joe losing a quarter.  Belichick’s salary in 2013 was $7.5 Million. $500,000 is like losing a dollar.

That’s not a deterrent. That was an embarrassment to the NFL and to the game of football. At least it should have been. The New England Patriots cheated their way to a Super Bowl or two and all they got as a very light slap on the wrist.

One thing is for certain though and Williams brought that up.

I’m trying not to go into details about it or disrespect that organization because I give that organization nothing but … you still got to go out there and play the game. All the credit. I give them all the credit in the world. But one fact still remains, they haven’t won a Super Bowl since they got caught.

They are a great team and Patriots owner Robert Kraft is one of the most respected team owners in the NFL, if not in all professional teams. But this is a stain against them. And Cary Williams is not going to forget it, even the Patriots fans want to.
