Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cary Williams didn’t participate with the team Sunday. There was speculation he was sidelined because of his comments about the New England Patriots less than honorable game play. But Williams explains that wasn’t the case.
No. It had nothing to do with that. I haven’t even discussed anything with Chip (Kelly). I don’t think he’s shown any agreement or disagreement with what I said.
He did participate in individual drills though. He claimed he had some soreness that prevented him from practicing at the level Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly expects out of his players.
I couldn’t practice up to the standards of what Chip holds nor to myself. I couldn’t do that. I didn’t want to let my teammates down. I know those guys work hard. I just couldn’t go.
So Williams took a mental day going over the plays. Looks like Kelly doesn’t mind a little trash-talk from his players. Late last week running back LeSean McCoy stirred up a little controversy when said he “owned” the Dallas Cowboys. I guess a little trash talk never hurt anyone.
