Philadelphia Eagles Asks Five Questions From Bear Goggles On

In anticipation of tonight’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears we decided to “reach across the aisle” and get some insight from one of Bear Goggles On staff writers, Michael Praser. He was kind enough to share some thoughts about the Bears. We asked him five good questions about the Bears and the upcoming game.

Explain the Love/Hate relationship Chicago fans have with Jay Cutler.

It’s funny you ask because there are more and more fans who are moving from hate to middle of the road when it comes to Jay Cutler. I will be the first to admit that I am a big Jay Cutler fan. I love the guy. Jay has been improving his image with fans and media over the last few years and I think it has a lot to do with him becoming a father and finally having a head coach who is more than just a coach. You will see Jay smiling more in public, interacting with fans and media. He has his own radio show on ESPN in Chicago and shows his personal side more often. The best is when Brandon Marshall guest hosts his show because we usually find out things about Jay that he would never share. One instance was that Brandon shared that Jay grows his own vegetables and that when Jay retires, he wants to be a radio host in Nashville. I also think people are learning to accept him since he is going to be the Quarterback of the Chicago Bears for the next few years.

How will Jay be accepted/appreciated if he brings home the Lombardi Trophy?

As always, Quarterbacks in the NFL get too much credit when the team wins and all the blame for when the team loses. Believe me, if the Bears can win a championship, there are going to be a lot of Jay Cutler jersey sales that year. The coaching staff is going to be praised and loved even more than Jay Cutler. Phil Emery and Marc Trestman will never have to pay for another meal ever again and people will be lining up to eat at any restaurant that Marc Trestman decides to open or put his name on.

How has Martellus Bennett’s actions affected the team since his outburst and suspension on Monday?

I think that the Bears made an example out of him to show the rookies and newbies that his actions won’t be tolerated. But at the same time, Martellus Bennett is getting a gift and it will help out the other Tight Ends trying to make the 53 man roster. Martellus Bennett and most veterans don’t want to be at training camp. Martellus now gets to spend some extra time with his family. It is a win win situation.

Chicago for years was known for their defense. Since the departure of Brian Urlacher how would you describe the Bears defense now?

If we are describing the Bears defense from last year’s performance, the only word I could use is awful. You saw how the Eagles destroyed the Bears last year. I know that the Eagles offense is good. They are really good and have a great quarterback, but come on. The Bears Defense looked like they were lost. Hopefully with the revamped defensive line and some promising rookies, the Bears will have a middle of the road defense this year. All of the Bears woes last year came from the horrific play of the defensive line. They couldn’t stop the run and that was from both the defensive line and linebackers being horrible. The addition of Jared Allen, Lamar Houston and a healthy Jeremiah Ratliff should create some havoc up front for offensive lines.

Eagles @ Bears tonight. Who do you have winning and why?

I see both teams winning as long as there are no injuries. I always fear that teams will lose key players in the pre season and these games mean squat. If I had to pick an actual winner, I would say that the Eagles will probably walk away with a victory. I don’t see very much depth at quarterback for the Bears and I have no idea what the running backs are going to do. I am looking forward to see how the Bears running backs perform and I am also curious how their safeties will perform. The Bears safety play last year was just plain bad. Ugh. It should be a fun matchup. Hopefully the Bears and Eagles will see each other in the playoffs this year.

We thank Michael Praser for taking the time to give some great insight about the Bears. Be sure to check out the game tonight. For more information about the bears be sure to check out Bear Goggles On.
