The Philadelphia Eagles host the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight in their first home game of the 2014 NFL Season. Typically the third preseason game is the closest to a “real” game there is. The starters will get their longest look before the season begins. The game will air on the NFL Network, as well as several other affiliate stations (see below), starting at 7:30 p.m. EST, 6:30 p.m. EST, 4:30 p.m. PST.
Keep an eye on Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez to see if he continues his preseason heroics. Last week’s defense looked pretty lousy. Defensive Coordinator Billy Davis said the defense in the second half looked, “structurally unsound as hell.” Head coach Chip Kelly is looking for more production out of first round pick Marcus Smith II. And so are the fans. There is a lot on the line for many players tonight.
The Steelers, faced with the recent alleged arrest of two of their star running backs, Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount may not be at the top of their game tonight. According to Several reports say Bell has been charged with suspicion of DUI and that both men will be charged with possession of marijuana. It isn’t clear if they will play tonight. The worst news is these two men make up about 100% of the Steelers running game.
