Back in the early 1800′s, military research experienced a revolution.  Eli Whitney, best known for inventing the cotton gin, went before the United States Congress to display ten guns, which he dismantled and reassembled before their eyes.  This was not the first time that interchangeable parts had been conceived, but it was the first time there was a mass implementation of the concept, as the United States government issued a standard that all new guns be manufactured with the same parts.

Why the history lesson?  Well this is essentially how Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is building his team.  The concept of interchangeable parts is one that Coach Kelly applies on both sides of the football.  He just uses another term for his favorite quality: versatility.

This versatility, however, can be applied to either player or position.  Versatility at a position means you have multiple players who can play that position differently.  Versatility in a player means that you have a player who can play multiple positions.
