Philadelphia Eagles kicker Alex Henery is on the ropes. Last week’s 31 yard missed field goal attempt didn’t affect the outcome of the game. But for the first three preseason games his record is 1 of 3. The four year veteran is in a tough spot. He seems to have lost his way.
Last week the Eagles acquired place kicker Cody Parkey from the Indianapolis Colts. Parkey, a recent graduate from Aubrun University had a successful run with the Tigers. You can see from his stats below he shows a lot of promise. It isn’t a coincidence the Eagles went after him when they did.
|2011||13 of 18||72%||41 of 42||98%|
|2012||11 of 14||79%||27 for 27||100%|
|2013||15 of 21||71%||66 of 67||99%|
Henery promises things will get better. It may be too late for that but as of right now he’s still on the team.
I think I’m pretty mentally strong. I feel like I’ve moved past those (misses), but in the end you also want to remember them so you know what you’re working on, what you need to improve on so when there’s a game situation like that, it doesn’t happen again.
We’ve heard all this before. Right now it’s nothing more than empty promises. But one thing is clear. He’s looking in his rear view mirror and Parkey is gaining ground. I give Henery until midway through the season, if that long. That will give Parkey time to develop. Then things should get interesting.
