Philadelphia Eagles cut Matthew Tucker among others and brought their roster to the required number of players to 53. They also cut place kicker Alex Henery but this was not a surprise. He had a dismal preseason including a missed 31 yard chip-shot against the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago. The missed opportunity did not make a difference in the game but it made a difference to his career.
Rookie place kicker Cody Parkey from the Auburn Tigers put on a fantastic show against the New York Jets this past Thursday. As a rookie, he made a 53 yard field goal. Which is longer than veteran Henery’s career longest. Sending him packing was a no-brainer.
However, in a surprise move the Eagles cut Matthew Tucker. The preseason leading rushing scorer in the NFL (four) was shown the door. It is unlikely he will be unemployed for long. Leaving behind an injured Chris Polk as the number three running back for the Eagles. Tucker shone like a new penny during the preseason. He showed a lot of promise as a pass protector as well.
