facebooktwitterreddit

Week 13 is in the books for the 2014 NFL season. The Philadelphia Eagles are 9-3 and are sitting atop the NFC looking to secure a first round bye as well as home field advantage. There were some pretty big matches this week with playoff implications, so with that said, here is the updated NFC playoff picture.

Standings

1. Arizona Cardinals 9-3

2. Green Bay Packers 9-3

3. Philadelphia Eagles 9-3

4. Atlanta Falcons 5-7

5. Seattle Seahawks 8-4

6. Detroit Lions 8-4

What Happened This Week In The NFL?

This was one big week in the NFL with playoff implications in quite a few games. The Packers played the Patriots, Falcons played the Cardinals, Seahawks played the 49ers, and the Lions played a big game against the Bears.

Going into Sunday, the Eagles were hoping for a Packers and Cardinals loss, but were only able to get help from the Falcons as they defeated Arizona 29-18. The Packers on the other hand outlasted the Patriots in what many considered a possible Super Bowl match-up.

Where Do The Eagles Stand?

If the playoffs started next week the Philadelphia Eagles would take on the Detroit Lions at the Linc wild card weekend and judging from the past couple of matches between the two teams, it would be a close game.

The two losses against the Packers and Cardinals are really coming back to haunt the Eagles, especially the Cardinals game. If the Bird win at the very least one of those games, they would have one of the top two seeds in the NFC and the first round bye. At 9-3 however, the Eagles are in a pretty good spot headed into December.

What’s Ahead For the Eagles?

Next week the Philadelphia Eagles will play the Seattle Seahawks in Philadelphia. This is going to be yet another big game for the Eagles. Win and they are still in contention for the number one seed in the NFC; lose and it would be very difficult to grab one of the top two seeds as they wouldnt hold any head to head tiebreakers.

It is December and the Eagles are playing meaningful football. They got a big win against Dallas on Thanksgiving, but the Seahawks will be a completely different challenge as they seem to be getting hot at the right time.

What Games To Watch Next Week

The Eagles need to Cardinals and Packers to lose in order to gain control of the number one seed. Them not having those head to head tiebreakers really come into play at this point in the season.

Next week former Eagles head coach Andy Reid can help out his former team by defeating the Cardinals as the Chiefs travel to Arizona. The Falcons played spoilers to the Cardinals this week, but next week they travel to Lambeau to play the red hot Packers. Lastly, the Cowboys travel to Chicago to play the Bears, and although it may seem like a shoe in win for the Cowboys, on the road in the Windy City in December could pose a problem for Romo and the Cowboys.

The Eagles enter the final stretch of the season in a good spot at 9-3, but there is still a lot of season to be played and anything can happen. Nothing has been cliched, therefore the Eagles will need to continue winning as well as get some help to hopefully take control of the number one seed in the NFC.
