A Few More Suggestions for the Philadelphia Eagles

facebooktwitterreddit

A few days ago I wrote an article saying that the Eagles should make a big trade this offseason.  To see the article itself, click here, but the main premise was that the Eagles should trade running back LeSean McCoy or guard Evan Mathis, since they are aging high-cost players.  Well that happened.  Yesterday.  So I’m going to go ahead and make a few more suggestions for the Philadelphia Eagles offseason.

More from Eagles News

Suggestion 1: The Eagles should re-sign wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

Maclin is a stud.  He filled in the void of former Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson after he was cut by Eagles head coach Chip Kelly.  Maclin is a very good leader, and an even better player.  Since both Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomas and Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant were both franchise-tagged, Maclin is the top receiver on the market.  We need to lock him up.

Suggestion 2: The Eagles should not sell the cow for magic beans.

Kelly has made it clear that he favors his Oregon players.  Aside from drafting a few, he’s signed more in free agency and now even traded for one.  McCoy was traded for Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso, a former Oregon player.  If there’s one thing the Eagles should not do this offseason, it’s mortgage the team’s future for one player: namely Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.  If Mariota slips past pick 10, by all means take him, but we should not be trading a bunch of picks for one player, no matter where he is from.

Suggestion 3:  The Eagles should sign some big-name free agents.

Among the big name free agents that the Eagles have a “need” for are running back Demarco Murray, outside linebacker Jason Worilds, safety Devin McCourty, and cornerback Byron Maxwell.  From this list, I would love to see Worilds and McCourty in midnight green next season.  Maxwell is good, but he benefitted from the Seahawks system and having the other 75% of the secondary in Seattle being All-Pro caliber. Also, Kelly’s offense makes running backs look good on the daily, so we don’t need to break the bank for Murray.

Suggestion 4: The Eagles should make another trade, but for draft picks.

The Eagles, even after the numerous cuts they made the past week, still have some very talented, but aging and overpriced players on the roster.  Mathis is another player that I think the Eagles should trade to a team needing some leadership and skill on the offensive line.  While he won’t warrant a big trade, getting a 2nd rounder and a sixth in this year’s draft would allow the Eagles to pick up his replacement and some youth.

Do you agree with my suggestions? It seems that the Eagles already took one to heart so maybe they’ll follow suit with the rest!
