When news broke that the Philadelphia Eagles were going to sign the much talked about, the much maligned quarterback Tim Tebow, head Coach Chip Kelly garnered some criticism. Kelly has been the center of discussion this offseason after taking over the general manager duties. Chip has made surprising moves left and right, and many have had some very bold statements and opinions. With all the chaos surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles, should the fans trust and support Kelly after all the craziness? The answer is simple, absolutely.

"“If there was an Ego Olympics, a man named Chip Kelly would win it.” – Mike Freeman"

After social media exploded yesterday with the news about Tebow, I saw one article about Kelly that really stood out to me and is source of inspiration for this article in a sense. Mike Freeman, a respected NFL writer for Bleacherreport.com, wrote a pretty lengthy piece about Chip Kelly and his inflated ego. The signing of Tebow only sheds light to the stunning moves Kelly has made previously this spring. In a nutshell, Freeman points to Kelly’s presumed faults as a decision maker. If you care to read the piece in it’s entirety here it is: Eagles Signing Tim Tebow Is All About Chip Kelly’s Giant Ego.

Freeman isn’t the only one to express this sentiment, the wonderful ESPN tv personality Skip Bayless actually loves the moves Kelly has made, because he is single handily ruining the Philadelphia Eagles according to him. NFL Network’s Heath Evans says the entire philosophy of the team is flawed and will never win a Super Bowl, Evans went as far as to call the hiring of Chip Kelly the worst hire in NFL history. With all the hoopla around Kelly, many have questioned whether the fans should even trust the coach.

Chip Kelly, two and half years into the job, has traded or let go some of the teams best players. Whether it was the shocking release of DeSean Jackson, the trading away of the team’s all time leading rusher in LeSean McCoy, letting Jeremy Maclin walk in free agency, trading for the former 1st overall pick Sam Bradford, or signing Tim Tebow, Kelly is making the moves he feels are necessary to win. Chip Kelly only cares about making the Philadelphia Eagles a better team, he definitely doesn’t care what others think. The fans need to feel this way too.

It’s easy to make bold, and somewhat ignorant statements in April about Chip Kelly and the state of the organization. Fans should have 100% trust in him. Why? Because he’s earned it. Many people forget that not to long ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were a 4-12 team with no real hope to ever win a Super Bowl. That terrible team included guys like Maclin, DeSean, and Shady McCoy, fans loved those players and rightfully so, but what real success did the team see with those guys? Chip Kelly has gone 20-12 in two seasons with leftovers from a team that was selecting in the top 5 in the draft, something that should not be overlooked.

Now that Kelly is getting the players he wants, the fans should trust the man more than ever. Even if the moves are shocking or controversial, there’s a method to Chip Kelly’s madness. The national media will have all types of opinions, but fans need to know the truth. That truth is Chip Kelly truly wants to win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia and the opinions of outsiders shouldn’t matter. For too long the team has always been middle of the pack or mediocre. Chip challenges the NFL norm and why not? The norm hasn’t worked for the organization so why continue to follow it?

The Philadelphia Eagles are going down a path that no one else has gone. This isn’t because of an inflated ego, arrogance, or even stupidity, it’s the burning desire to win by any means necessary. That desire and passion is exactly what the Eagles and fans need from their head coach. Chip Kelly is leading the charge and we should all follow. The media will have their opinions, but the entire Philadelphia Eagles fan base will have hope because of Chip Kelly.
