Philadelphia Eagles Player Profile: Emmanuel Acho

Up first on our Philadelphia Eagles Player Profile or “PEPP” series is inside linebacker Emmanuel Acho. In this series of post, I’ll discuss each and every single player on the Eagles’ current 90-man roster, in alphabetical order. For each player, I’ll discuss their career history, measurables, individual outlook for the Eagles in 2015 and their chance to make the final 53-man roster.

Right at the top of the team’s roster is Emmanuel Acho, who’s in an interesting situation heading into training camp. Let’s take a closer look at the fourth-year inside linebacker!

Career History

As a sixth-round pick out of Texas by the Cleveland Browns, Acho wasn’t drafted with high expectations. But he suffered a season-ending leg injury during the team’s second preseason game, prematurely ending his rookie season. In 2013, Acho was traded to the Eagles for running back Dion Lewis. He was cut by the Eagles during final cuts and was picked up by the New York Giants and spent a month or so on their practice squad. Acho was then signed off the Giants’ practice squad and was eventually signed to the 53-man roster early on in the 2014 season.

Following starting inside linebacker DeMeco Ryans‘ season-ending injury in week 9, Acho actually saw an increase in snaps. He finished the season with 277 total snaps but never played more than 33 snaps in a single game. Acho was mostly underwhelming on the field in 2014 and has failed to really impress the team’s coaching staff.

Measurables

Emmanuel Acho’s measurables, according to Mockdraftable.com.

As you can see, there isn’t much from a measurable standpoint that jumps out with Acho. His height and weight is actually a bit underwhelming but his arm length is worth noting. The Eagles clearly look for explosive athletes with length on defense and Acho possesses both, although they aren’t elite measurements, by any means. His broad jump and vertical jump are quite impressive but as I said, Acho isn’t an elite athlete overall.

Eagles’ Outlook for 2015

It’s quite tough to gauge the Eagles’ as a whole but especially at inside linebacker. Once head coach Chip Kelly gained control of all personnel decisions, he immediately addressed the inside linebacker position by trading for Kiko Alonso, signing Brad Jones and drafting Jordan Hicks. Kelly also chose to extend DeMeco Ryans’ contract and Mychal Kendricks has been mentioned in multiple trade rumors. That being said, Acho’s stock in Philadelphia certainly appears to be on the decline.

The Eagles’ inside linebacker group is full of talent now with Alonso, Kendricks, Ryans and Hicks guaranteed to make the team’s final roster, barring any injuries or unforeseen trades. Acho will likely battle it out with Jones and Najee Goode for a final linebacker spot on the roster. But given that Kelly made the decision to sign Jones, I believe he’s the favorite to win that spot over both Acho and Goode.

Chance of Making Final 53-Man Roster: 10%

Although Acho has bounced around the City of Brotherly Love for the past couple of years, it looks like his time on the team will likely come to an end in 2015. There’s just way too much talent on the team at inside linebacker, it’ll be tough for him to make the final cuts.
