Bacon, Eggs and Eagles – Chip Kelly’s Secret Life

facebooktwitterreddit

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has always kept to himself. He isn’t very open with the media and won’t open anything to the public unless he absolutely has too. That makes a lot of people wonder about how Kelly is off the field and away from football. Robert Huber of PhillyMag.com went on a personal hunt to try and get a chance to speak with Kelly, which he wrote in great detail about in a recent article. All that and more in this morning’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

The Secret Life of Chip KellyRobert Huber of PhillyMag.com

"I am in pursuit. It’s late May, and I’m spending a few days driving all over the southeastern corner of New Hampshire, that plug of land that gives the Live Free or Die state a right-of-way to the sea. Random inlets of crystalline water lap small towns built around proper squares and painted white. Many are older than America itself. This is where I’m searching for Chip Kelly — a revolutionary masquerading as a football coach — even though I’m sure he’s in Philadelphia, with his team."

What’s behind “The Secret Life of Chip Kelly”?Mark Saltveit of BleedingGreenNation.com

"Chip Kelly is so private, and such an interesting personality, that he has become an obsessive target of many writers, including me. (I was going to use the cliched Moby Dick metaphor, but calling the coach a “Great White Whale” might lead people to thinking I’m talking about race, or weight-shaming.)The ultimate goal is the perfect longform profile, mixing fascinating details with moving stories told by those who know him best. Controversial author Robert Huber, a feature writer for the non-football side of Philadelphia Magazine, just published his results today, in a 5,000-word article titled “The Secret Life of Chip Kelly.” (Full disclosure: I was one of many people Huber spoke with in his research for this project.)"

Sam Bradford, Byron Maxwell raise new questionsPhil Sheridan of ESPN.com

"PHILADELPHIA — Chip Kelly’s radical remaking of the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster raised a lot of questions. Some of them were answered along the way, some are still left open as the team scatters for six weeks before training camp begins. Here’s a look at three questions that were raised, or at least unanswered, by the events of the past few months."

Fact or Fiction for Philadelphia Eagles’ Biggest Offseason Question MarksAndrew Kulp of BleacherReport.com

"To say 2015 marked a tumultuous offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles would be a bit of an understatement. In all, the offense and defense project to field as many as 12 new starters in the season ahead, which is about as major a shakeup as you’ll typically see from a franchise coming off back-to-back 10-win seasons.Naturally, with so much upheaval, questions have been swirling as to whether or not the team has improved as a whole. In some cases, we’re not even certain if the Eagles got better or worse at a specific position or area."

Zach Ertz reached out to Tony Gonzalez because he wants to be the best tight end everBrandon Lee Gowton of BleedingGreenNation.com

"Zach Ertz wants to be the very best, like no one ever was. Just ask him.“I want to be the best,” Ertz said after Eagles practice last week. “I’m not going to settle for anything less than that. That’s the goal I’ve had each and every day since I was a little kid. To be the best in everything I do. I don’t think there’s any reason I can’t do that.”These aren’t just empty words. Ertz has spent a lot of time working on his game this offseason. One of the ways Ertz has aimed to improve is seeking the advice of NFL legends. Ertz recently wrote about this topic in a blog post at his new site, ZachErtz86.com. Ertz notes he worked on his blocking with former Dallas Cowboys offensive line coach Hudson Houck. The Eagles have already seen some progress in Ertz’s blocking, so working with Houck may have really helped out."

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for advanced stats and what Pro Football Focus does, as well as hilarious Eagles’ related memes. So this was just the best of both worlds!
