Based on a recent report by Philadelphiaeagles.com, the Carson Wentz rib injury hasn’t slowed his development too much.

The excitement of seeing rookie quarterback Carson Wentz play very well in the Philadelphia Eaglesfirst pre-season game is gone. It’s been replaced by the boredom of seeing shots of him on the sideline as the Eagles defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in their second pre-season game.

You’ve all probably figured out that you may have seen Wentz for the last time in on-field action in 2016. He’ll most likely spend the rest of this season with a clipboard and headphones on.

Recent statements suggest his routine hasn’t changed much. “(I did the) same thing I’d be doing if I was dressed, just on the sideline. I was locked in. I was trying to help Sam (Bradford) and Chase (Daniel) and McLeod (Bethel-Thompson) when they were in there. I was trying to communicate things, see things, pretend as if I were in there.”

Seeing Wentz against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers showed us a few things: his ability to improvise, his versatility and his lack of fear when it comes to contact. Eagles fans are definitely hopeful that last one changes quickly. It’s hard to tell when his injury may have happened, but it may have been on the scramble. Coaches are definitely going to emphasize sliding when he gets ready to take the field again.

He threw a little bit pre-practice (on Saturday) He threw some during the practice, but not in the drills….He was on the side – Doug Pederson

That may take some work because Wentz, at this point, doesn’t seem to be interested in changing his playing style. “It’s not going to change the way I play. I’m not going to back away from anything,..At the same time I’m still learning how to control myself and take care of the body, protect myself a little more and that’s something I’ve just got to keep doing the rest of my career.”

A wrist injury in college didn’t stop him, so it’s no reason to think he isn’t serious about what he said. “I kind of know what it takes and just kind of fight through it and I’ll be out there hopefully sooner than later,” said the rookie. “I get quite a bit (from mental reps). “As long as you’re locked in. I’m always asking the coaches 100 questions. I’m always trying to understand what’s happening. I’m always trying to pretend I’m in there and what I would maybe change or what would my read be.”

Philadelphiaeagles.com reported in another story about Wentz that he’s having no issues with daily activities. Head coach Doug Pederson offered some perspective of him beginning to throw again. “He threw a little bit pre-practice (on Saturday). He threw some during the practice, but not in the drills….He was on the side. Again, he’s sore, which is expected. So we’re just going to back him down again today, and it’s still a day-to-day injury.”

The plan, at least in Wentz’s mind is to return for the pre-season finale versus the New York Jets. So far, no medical or team report exists that backs up that claim.
