The Eagles have played fantasy football enough, and now it’s time to play “money ball”.

It appears Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson is engaging in his own version of “playing the field”. For the younger generation, that’s an old term that was once used in dating. The unfortunate thing about trying it is it never works out. Someone gets caught cheating, relationships take a bad turn and feelings get hurt. Normally, those relationships aren’t repairable.

Free agency is upon us:

March 9th marks the beginning of the NFL free agency period, and it appears Jackson is now playing his own version of speed dating. Earlier this season, a story was leaked (probably with the aid of Jackson) that the former Philadelphia Eagles receiver wasn’t opposed to a return to “The City of Brotherly Love”. Earlier this month, Jackson stated he’d rather stay in Washington, having already settled into the city fairly well and being a homeowner there. This week, it’s been learned that Jackson’s, again, is interested in the possibility of playing in Philly.

Come on DeSean. We can all see what you’re doing, and it’s obvious.

An interesting twist:

More from Inside the Iggles

Last week on 94 WIP-FM during The Midday Show with Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie, the hosts delivered a great show and devoted some time to the topic. Fans called in to offer their thoughts. The conversation even shifted to possibly bringing back Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy. Fortunately, DeCamara and Ritchie offered a level-headed response to an emotional topic. The final analysis was it would be a nice story to “get the band back together”, but all three players are past their prime. This also wouldn’t serve as a long-term answer.

To make long stories short:

Jackson will turn 31 on December 1st. Recently, he’s battled some nagging injuries. Many believe the Redskins, with both Jackson and Pierre Garcon on the roster, are leaning toward keeping Garcon. Eagles fans were re-energized about how exciting Jackson could be when they saw him beat former cornerback Leodis McKelvin for a deep touchdown at Lincoln Financial Field. Again, we all have to calm down. The Eagles didn’t think enough about McKelvin to keep him longer than one year, and everybody beat the Eagles deep downfield during the 2016 season.

We mean everybody.

It’s time to play “money ball”:

As a former Eagle, we’ll always remember the punt return to drive the final nail in the New York Giants coffin. We’ll always remember the opening touchdown against the Redskins in that Monday night game. We all have to remember those are memories, and they were a long time ago. The Eagles have a lot of holes to fill, and they need to free up money. They need to win in free agency, and they need long term answers. Jackson doesn’t assist in any of that. Nobody’s mad at him for trying to make his money, but the Eagles can’t give him a large contract or sign him for multiple years.

It’s time to move on.
