Looking at the Eagles defense may have some a tad too excited, but who gives a hoot?

What some of you are thinking is totally obvious. Everybody’s jumping the gun here. The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t slimmed down to a legitimate 53-man roster yet. Every single ounce of on-field action that we’ve seen in 2017 has been in inner-squad practices with no pads on. This team has a tremendous amount of holes. There are too many unanswered questions. All of which will need to get figured out fairly quickly.

That being said, no one following this team needs to get overly-excited or start booking reservations for Minneapolis in February.

On the other hand, when you look around the NFC East, everyone has holes. For whatever reason, the Eagles just haven’t been able beat the Washington Redskins (something they’ll look to cure in week one of the regular season), but beating the New York Giants, aside from a few hiccups here and there, is normally an afterthought. Then, there’s the Dallas Cowboys. They seem to be the most playoff-ready team at the moment, but recent history has shown us the Eagles have typically had their number as well.

The Eagles have tweaked their roster on both sides of the ball. What’s been done on offense gets a ton of attention, but some serious upgrades have been made on defense as well.

Here are five reasons that we’re excited about the defense.
